The Family Savings Account program is available to residents in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Crawford, and Westmoreland Counties; the financial literacy workshops are open to the public.
Description of Program(s)
"Practical Money Management" is a free two-part financial literacy workshop. Learn strategies for practical budgeting during tough economic times. Participants must attend both sessions to complete. Registration required by calling 412-487-6316 Option 2 Ext. 3217.NHCO US Small Business Administration and Volunteer of America - Working Order Program present "Homes is a Business: You Decide". A two-part financial literacy workshop comparing running the home to running a business. All classes are free and open to the public.

Program Effectiveness
75 people have attended NHCO financial literacy workshops since December 2005. 24 Family Savings Account savers have fulfilled the financial literacy requirement through the FDIC Money Smart Computer-Based Instruction Course. 38 FSA savers have been matched with 16 volunteer FSA Savings Couch mentors for 1-on-1 support & guidance during their participation in the FSA program. 22 teens ages 16 to 19 attended NeighborWorks "My Money, My Life" program at NHCO's Millvale location.
