Advantage Credit Counseling Services (ACCS) provides services to 32 counties across Central and Western Pennsylvania. Offices are located in Altoona, Beaver, Erie, Greensburg, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Washington, and York. Counseling may be done over the phone or in-person.
Description of Program(s)
ACCS helps people get back in control of their finances by providing credit and budget counseling. The agency offers a Debt Management Program to help consumers get out of debt. In-person and telephone counseling is available. The agency is authorized by the Pennsylvania Housing and Finance Agency to assist homeowners applying for the Homeowners Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program (Act 91-HEMAP) and provides housing counseling, pre- and post-purchase, reverse mortgage, rental, and predatory lending. ACCS provides a wide range of educational workshops. The agency provides the requires pre-filing bankruptcy counseling and pre-discharge education as required under the 2005 bankruptcy law.
Materials / Publications
Advantage Credit Counseling Services uses internally created education materials for counseling sessions and financial literacy workshops. Education materials are available on the agency's website. Hard copies of some materials are also available. The agency also utilizes materials from a variety of outside agencies including the Federal Trade Commission and Consumer Action.

As a non-profit organization incorporated in 1968, Advantage Credit Counseling Services educates consumers about wise money management and the responsible use of credit. The agency enlightens and assists thousands of people each year thorough free, confidential counseling and various community education presentations. Because of the services of Advantage, clients lives are bettered, their family stability is enhanced and the community as a whole benefits. The agency provides private, confidential budget and debt counseling and provides a special Debt Management Program which enables clients to repay millions of dollars a year to their creditors, saving significant losses to business and eventually resulting in rehabilitated customers for the economy.

Program Effectiveness
In 2009, ACCS provided 280 community education presentations to a total audience of 3,179 consumers. The agency conducted 7,711 credit counseling sessions, either by phone or in person at one of our seven locations. In 2009, over 2,000 clients entered into a formal debt management program with the agency.
